How do you handle gift giving with your friends at Christmas??
Buy each a present...
Pick names...
Send or give a card..
Call them the day of to wish them a Merry Christmas...

I usually just send them a card. By the time I finish buying presents for my kids, my nephews, etc., I don't have money to buy friends gifts. At work we usually do the chinese gift exchange, and I think this year with my husbands cousins we are going to pull names. Thats it:)

My family pulls names for the adults and buys gifts for the kids.
I don't have any friends that I feel close enough to this year to purchase a gift...well maybe one ;) ... and I have purchased gifts in the past.

there are 2 families that gets gifts (multiple households)
If there are kids in the house...ONLY the kids gets gifts
if there is a married couple, the couple get's 1 gift...
if there are singles, each person gets' a gift...
NOW...
every year i choose a theme for the gift giving based on how good of a discount i can find or sales and quantity of the items in that store on sale.
2 years ago ...i went to walden book store (membership discount in hand) and EVERYBODY got books. paid under $100 for everything. and they got books they would like.
last year, i went to my company's factory stores, (major discount in hand) and bought for everyone....AGAIN...$100 for everythang...
this year, last month to be exact...i went into carlton cards and found bear figurines on sale....DAMN...discount in hand...$100 for air body...
i love christmas shoppin! lmao :beer
now my family: only the kids and my parents and my siblings get's gifts. my cousins and their kids...get one gift from our whole house hold where me and mom and sisters go in on 1 gift per household of relatives.

This is me for the most part. . .I will however pick up a gift any time of the year for my friend's just because I'm thinking of them. . .that means more than an obviously orchestrated holiday perpetuated to make you do so.

I think i will consider doing the theme thing myself.. I was actually thinking of giving books this year but didn't know how that would go over.. I probably will now that I know someone else has done it.. ;)
Those of you that don't give gifts... How do you handle it when your friend gives you a gift? Do you not feel obligated to get them one??

Since Santa will be carrying a sandwich bag this year, gifts for friends are out. This year will be the year of personal greetings and cards.
