would get it's shit together! I'm tired of all these damn updates, many of which cause more problems than they solve.

Got the latest one this morning. Now spoolsv.exe wants access to the internet, and every keystroke has like a 3-second delay. Now I have to go find out what the hell spoolsv.exe is and whether I should let it out. I don't feel like wasting time on that. I've got more fun stuff to do.

Sometimes I really miss my old DOS prompt.

it is codenamed longhorn and we will be lucky to see it by mid/end 2006. although a working version is floating around the net right now.

windows xp sp 2 is available right now. it came out late may. it is supposed to have all the fixes sp1 had and all the security rollouts etc up to the end of may. it is also supposed to have a better built in firewall and security measures.

but i am waiting a few months before i download/install it so that other folks can find the bug and m$ can fix them.

my advice to most folks is to get a hardware firewall, do not download random stuff and open strange emails and you will not have to worry about much. regardless of any updates.

I heard the same thing that Gammite said. The last time I heard, Microsoft is delaying the release of the next windows...and it might be released around 2006.

I have a hardware firewall (yes, I changed the default password ;) ), Zone Alarm software firewall, Ad-Aware, Spy Bot, EzTrust anti-virus, as well as the Yahoo toolbar for pop-up blocking and spyware scanning.

On the XP machine, I have much more trouble with the OS updates than anything else. Now on the 98 machine, it's reversed; most problems there stem from spyware.

And yes Mr. Gammite, I AM sexy enough to view your avatar. If you only knew! :upretty

2006! Maybe I'll be converted to Linux by then. Load up the laptop with all my legacy s/f for file conversions. Yea, that's it. Send my old desktop to Mr. Bill COD with a stake driven through the middle.

Yea, I know it would solve anything, but it would sure feel good.
