I used to work for an answering service back in 88/89 when mostly doctors had beepers.

It was my job to answer the phone, then page the doctor. The thing was that MOST beepers at the time were still voice pagers.

We had one girl that got fired because whenever she would page a doctor she would "sing" the message. Not literally but the way she talked and drug out each word, when it came out on his beeper he said it sounded like someone singing. He couldn't stand it.

"Dr So and So pleeeeeze call your answering service...pleeeeze call your answering service."

Mine fell in the toilet once after I had flushed. It still worked after it dried out.

I was working storm duty after a major hail storm. Had my beeper on vibrate and was sitting talking to some co-workers. It started to vibrate and I nearly jumped from my seat. Everyone had a good laugh over that one. They said it looked like I had received an electrical shock:eek:

I'm personally glad they are gone..I do not know anyone who still have one for personal use. We have them for work, but the blackberries are phasing them out...

When Pagers were popular I was working for a pager company (Mobilecomm/Arch Paging)....I was the pager rep for IBM, I could not understand how folk dropped pager in the toilet, ran over it with there car.

Those IBM folks were a trip, demanding new pager in like hours, used to make me wonder wth did folks do prior to pagers...

I had the bomb pager working at the pager company, name programed in screen, CNN, weather, sports updates..ect.

The organization I work for now....a Arch bill came across my desk...I'm like..WTF...who has a damn pager??..lol,lol...some companies still use them...

I get tickeled...when i see folks on the street all wired up cellie, earpiece, headset, laptop,palm pilot,...and a frickkin pager on the waist...I'm like WHOA!!!...you doing a little too much....ain't cha pardna???

Yeah, the Blackberries were all the rage for those that wanted to look even more important than the company owned wireless phone users. To be able to access your Email, means you dont ever have to be at your desk, and who can accuse you of going home early? You are out there somewhere, answering right away but not having to lie live.

In the 80s we had the ultimate pain in the ass hotel pager system where you get the beep then ten seconds of a voice message the caller can leave. We had this mental case that would page over and over until you called her back... and remember you had to get to a house phone... and she woulds escalate in each call... where are you, call me....... wheeeeere are yooou, call me..... Where arrrrre you! She would even start cursing and threatening your job...all in a matter of a couple minutes, like while you are coming down in the elevator, folks around you listening also. I used to love to make sure it was loud enough to let people know the kind of nut job she was. The "emergency" would be something for the next day, she just wanted instant access to you.

Remember the "Beepers" rap song, a B-side cut on a rapper's album that had a much better known chart topper. Do you remember what the background music sample was?

i had the plain numeric 1st .. when the honies would write upside down with the numbers (3=E, 4=h, o=0, 7=L etc )

after about 2 of them i got the HOOK UP and had side view pager... still numeric.. but it slid out the clip !!!! after about 3 of dem ...

i got the SEA.. hook up and had the MOTOROLA FLEX !!!!
i was the shit then ,, sports,, REAL TEXT,,, 2 NUMBERS on 1 pager !!!
