Double Dutch..

How many of yall used to play? or can remember the girls on the block playing?:D

The past 2 weeks CL, SweetC and myself have been regressing down childhood memory lane, went out and bought a clothesline (yall know they don't make them like they used to) but we been working with what is available. Getting our double dutch on...

It's a shame how young girls today don't know how to play double dutch or jump rope. Yall should see all the neighborhood girls just flocking, wanting to play.

Girl, you took me waaaaaayyyyyyy back. My friends & I used to jump in the street in front of our houses. After we got tired of jumping, we would play hopscotch.

But i could never jump double dutch...i tried this past summer and my daughter and her sisters told me to go in the house....they just laughed at me.

And i don't remember any of the songs...:(

Me too neither Tee. I guess that's what happens when you are an only child who can't leave the yard to play with the other kids. :( I don't even know those songs. *feeling deprived*

Ya'll got me wanting to go out and buy a clothes line and jump some double dutch. We used to jump to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, to see who could go the highest. Or sometimes we would count by 5's. We had a ball. I probably wouldn't even make it to 100 now and would be out of breath too.

make sure it's broken in...we used to HATE jumpin' with a brand new rope...it didn't bend enough for me

i feel extra sorry for ya'll who didn't grow up jumpin' double dutch...it was like an initiation to get taught

THis thread is soooooooo funny, because we didn't jump double dutch in florida...... Owever, during 1979-80 I went to Conneticut and boston for the summer. It was on and popping then. Everytime I went to bloomfield we would wake up jumping double dutch in our night clothes. Dang, I thought that was so much fun, so once I got back to florida I started teaching a selected few how to jump and of course we thought we were the shit, all the other gurly's had to just watch and try to pick it up themselves..lololol:cool:

I wonder if I can still jump it now!!!!
