I'll be getting my first ever flu shot tomorrow (my son, too.) We're going this year because of all the reports and warnings about this new virus and how it's particularly bad for folks with respiratory issues (like asthma). Do any of you get them? If so, do you find that they really help?

..i took one this year...flu shots help prevent the attack of more hazardous strains of the flu from taking ocver...you COULD get the ful, but it won't or shouldn't be very severe...i say get one this year...that shit is NO JOKE...

That makes me feel better cuz usually as soon as I feel that needle break the skin, stuff starts going dark...my son will never let me live it down if I pass out at his docs office!

I haven't gotten a flu shot in about 4 years. Ironically, that was the last time I had flu-like symptoms at all.

Never had it, probably never will.

The flu can be avoided by washing your hands and keeping a sterile environment.

I also remember hearing that this year's flu shot wasn't combatting the new/latest strain of flu that's out there.

Earlier this year they wanted to make the flu shot a required immunization for children. . .not buying that one

You can also naturally boost your immune system with things like Echinacea (sp) and other things (I think Vitamins B, C & E). . .I can go look it up in my books and post more info later.

I never had the flu or taken the shot. I was watching the news last night thinking maybe I should get one, but they're saying that most places are out of the shots. Plus it takes 4 months to make up the serum....

I have never had a flu shot. I very seldom get the flu. I did have flu like symptoms last year. I spent Christmas eve and Christmas day in bed.

Hopefully I can get through the winter without getting sick.

LOL - Bright, I DO wash my hands and keep a clean house. Plus take vitamins and goldenseal/echinacea but I get the flu EVERY year. In our area, people that have gotten the flu have been down for at least two weeks. So, since I already have that asthma thing going on, I don't want to chance it.

They're running out in Cali too, Nubian.

Hope you stay well, Juicy. Sick for Christmas is no fun...

I took a flu shot once 3 years ago. My arm was sore for 2 weeks and then I got the worse flu of my life.

Since then I vowed never to take the shot again, and I have not had the flu again. (knock wood)

I hate needles too. I have very small veins and whenever there is a need for an IV it is so painful I generally am screaming.

And shots are even worse. Cus they hold the needle in your arm until all the medicine drips out.

Uhm...I'm not helping am I?

Leaving this thread before Dulce faints. ;)

Let me just say that I took my 4 month old daughter to her annual check up and started asking questions about the flu shot. She told me the same thing.
Since I bring my daughter to work with me and she is in my office, I asked my supervisor to send out an email about washing your hands before you handle the babies in the office.

To my surprise he did! But I was making them do this before the flu. We gots some nasty folk at my job. :(

With the news services now reporting that the Flu is established in all 50 states, people are starting go nuts about getting shots. Parents are taking children in, who are getting the shot, but if the parent is under 50 and not otherwise in the risk categories, they are denied because supplies are near exhausted.

i agree.

but when you have kids in school.
her snotty nose with 500 other snotty noses....you just cant beat that too much.

i havent had a flu shot in about 3 years. last christmas i too was at home. first jasmine had the flu...and as soon as she was better...i was sick.

between christmas and newyears eve..i was home sick...

soooo this year...

i havent taken the flu shot..cause i cant stand having to get a shot...or even having to deal with my daughter hollaring and screaming like somebody killing her.

so ima cross my fingers and hope we dont end up sick like last year.

AND.....if you go into a DR's office there are five million snotty nosed kids in there...i dont even want to take jasmine in there!
